Glenn Beck says we are paving the way to death camps.
Tell him you disagree.
On his Friday, May 28th, radio show, Glenn Beck responded to an opinion piece by Jewish Funds for Justice's Simon Greer, saying that our work for the common good paves the way to "death camps". His comments have led to broad condemnation, from a statement by the American Jewish Committee to Keith Olbermann's Countdown:
We believe that we all have a vital role to play in promoting the common good. As Simon wrote in his initial op-ed, "Government is one way which we care for our neighbors, and tradition tells me to care for my neighbor as I care for myself. Here's what we do for each other as Americans: We grow food, we create jobs, we build homes, pave roads, teach our children, care for our grandparents, secure our neighborhoods. Government makes our country function."
This fight isn't only between Jewish Funds for Justice and Glenn Beck. It's between two philosophies. Beck's rhetoric provides targets for the growing anger in our country, but his commentary offers neither long-term solutions nor short-term relief. Beck's reflexive hatred of government is rejected by Americans of all backgrounds, who have seen the powerful role it can play in providing us with greater freedom, security, and opportunity. By adding your name below, you're stating that you stand with the majority of Americans who believe in fighting for the public good.
